Racing Rules Change

The racing rules published by the United States Sailing Association were modified again in 2001 for the period 2001/2004.

(International code flags 1, 2 and 3 as shown above will be used to identify a division or class.)

A class flag (above) will be hoisted as a 5-minute warning for the next class or division to start. If there is only one start (no class starts), the number 1 flag is usually hoisted to start the 5 minute countdown.

With 4 minutes remaining the "P" flag will be hoisted.

With 1 minute remaining the "P" flag will be dropped.

With 0 minutes remaining the class flag will be dropped signifying the Class or Division start.

The hoisting and lowering of all these flags will be accompanied by a sound signal, (horn or gun).

Following are other flags commonly flown by the Race Committee:

AP      Postponment I       Round the ends rule in effect
Y     Wear life jacket (mandatory)
