GENERAL INFORMATION
KONOCTI BAY SAILING CLUB was founded
in 1988. The first set of By-Laws was
adopted in January of 1989. Its primary
purpose is to promote, foster and encourage sailing on Clear Lake. This booklet outlines the Club's facilities
and activities available to meet these ends.
Once your membership is approved, you will receive a membership
package. Your membership package should
include a copy of the By-Laws (please read), a Membership Identification Card
(to be replaced yearly), an Activity Schedule, and a Membership Roster.
CLUB ACTIVITIES:
RACING:
A racing schedule should be included
in your membership package. The Club
supports two fleets. The unballasted
fleet, primarily scows, race under the Portsmouth handicap. The keelboats use PHRF handicap figured on
the national average. There are Summer
and Fall Series running from May to November, plus several individual races
scheduled for the year. If you desire
to race but don't have a boat, skippers are always looking for crew.
CRUISING: The cruising schedule is intermingled
with the racing schedule included in your membership package. Various cruises are scheduled throughout the
warmer months so as not to conflict with the racing schedule. They include overnighters, brunch, dinner
and moonlight cruises, and fun races.
SOCIAL GATHERINGS: Various dinners and social events are
held throughout the year, ranging from events such as a pizza or chili cook-off,
to awards dinners and special occassions such as Octoberfest Also post race picnics and gatherings are popular.
The club's major activity of the year
is hosting the Konocti Cup and Half a Cup. This event occurs during the last
full weekend of April. An awards brunch is held on Sunday at the Konocti Harbor
Inn. Usually some forty to fifty boats
from all areas of Northern California participate.
NEWSLETTER: The Club publishes a monthly newsletter. Contents include reminders of up-coming events, introduction of
new members and race results. Any
additional input from members regarding sailing experiences, tips, activities,
etc. is welcome. Contact the editors or
any Board Member.
