Konocti Cup Welcome from the Commodore

I wish to welcome all of you fellow sailors to the 2010 Konocti Cup.This is our 26th year hosting this great season opening regatta on beautiful Clearlake. For those of you who have participated in past races please review this web page for important information and changes to the race. For those of you participating for the first time, you should be able to find answers to any questions you might have.

As before, the race consists of both the Full Cup, a 26 mile course sailed in the 2 eastern legs of Clear Lake with every point of sail included and the Half Cup, a 13 mile course that is the first half of the Full Cup course. There have been no changes to the race format installed last year, but you should review the Notice of Race for the Handicap Divisions and rules governing them.

There is one important change from last year. Our Race Headquarters has been moved. Previously we have used Richmond Park Bar and Grill as our headquarters but, due to the steady increase in participants over the past few years, we have moved the Race Headquarters to the Buckingham Clubhouse. The address and location (with a map) can be found further on down this page. Also, there are many places around the lake to stay and also eat. See our listings of these businesses as well as a map of the lake and places to launch.

Special Notice: Please review the Invasive Species Inspection (Quagga Mussel) notice below. Any boat from a High Risk county in California or from neighboring States will be subject to an intensive boat inspection at additional cost, with a high probability that launch will be denied. Those counties are: Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Benito, San Bernadino, and San Diego.

The main criteria for a successful inspection are CLEAN, DRAINED, and DRY. Those boats from a saltwater environment, or counties neighboring Lake County, should have no problem with the inspection process. This process is similar to last year; filling out the affidavit form and a brief vessel inspection, on the trailor, prior to launch.

We have made special arrangements for Race Participants to have the inspection at Braito’s Marina to insure that your visit is hassle free. All “non resident, out of area” boats must go thru this inspection, prior to launch. The inspection station will be available from 4:00 PM till 8:00 PM on Friday the 23rd and again from 6:00AM till 10:00 AM on race day, the 24th. You may then launch at Braito’s or any other launch site you wish.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol will be monitoring vessels on the Lake for proof of inspection and costly citations will be issued to violators. KBSC apologizes for this inconvenience, however, we are in full support of maintaining Clear Lake as a mussel free lake and we ask for your support in this endeavor as well.

Finally, review all of the documents below for more detailed information about the Konocti Cup and a Cup entry form that you can download to complete and mail to us. I look forward to seeing you all at this years race.

Again, welcome and enjoy the race.

Quagga Mussels - Inspection Sticker is Required

Infestation of Quagga Mussels in California lakes is becoming a serious problem. Most lakes now require an inspection for out of the area boats before launching and Clearlake is one of them. Please review the county website: www.co.lake.ca.us/mussels for additional information about the mussel program and inspection.

In order to alleviate as much hassle as possible in this required inspection we will have an inspector present at Braito’s Marina 1555 Eastlake Dr. Kelseyville (see the location and map below). . Inspection consists of the boat owner filling out a simple form, presenting it to the inspector, the inspector will review the form and the boat and approve the boat for launching in Clearlake. There is a $10 fee collected by the inspector (cash only). There is a list of lakes that are known to be contaminated (mainly in Southern California). If your boat has recently been in one of these lakes it is unlikely you can pass inspection without a quarantine time so our advice is to confirm you’re okay before traveling to our regatta.

Please note that Braito’s Marina is the only inspection station that will be available and all boats from out of the area must report there for inspection before launching either at Braito’s or one of the other launching facilities. Braito's is also our primary launching facility. See below for Braito's address and a google map.

The Konocti Cup is open to all keel boats and center board boats over 19' in length. NORCAL PHRF will be used for handicapping and scoring. All boats must be equipped for night sailing. Click here, or on the image to the left to see an enlarged view of the course and GPS data for marks.

Don't forget to get your 2010 Konocti Cup T-Shirts and hats the morning of the race!

Registration

All boats must register for the regatta and receive their race packet. Early registration will be available at 1600 to 2000 hours on Friday at Braito’s Marina (in the Tiki Hut) or starting at 0630 on Saturday at the Buckingham Clubhouse.

The mandatory skippers meeting is at the race headquarters – April 24, 2010 Time: 0815.

Social Events & Awards Brunch

There will be a complimentary Continental Breakfast at the race headquarters, the Buckingham Clubhouse, on Saturday morning. Show before registration so you won't leave for your boat hungry!

Don't forget that there will be a hotdog/hamburger barbeque following the race.

Then, of course, our traditional awards brunch will start at 0930 on Sunday. Again, it's important to pre-register for the race and indicate how many people you will be bringing to the awards brunch.

Race Headquarters - The Buckingham Association Clubhouse

This is an ideal facility for conducting the race and hosting the other social events. It is also a comfortable place for non-sailing attendees to relax and watch the race in progress, with an excellent view of much of the race course.

It is on the water with some limited docking, a very nice beach area, and a large lawn with picnic facilities. The clubhouse and grounds will be open from 0600 Saturday morning through 1500 Sunday afternoon for our use.

This facility is located at 2850 Eastlake Dr . Kelseyville off of Soda Bay Rd., approximately ½ mile west of Konocti Harbor Resort.

Launch Facilities

(Note: The Konocti Bay Resort & Spa is no longer open)

Braito's marina is also the closest launch facility to race headquarters. Again, Braito’s Marina is the only place that you can get a muscle inspection certificate. Braito's is also an excellent launch facility with ample parking space for trailers. Many of the KBSC boats participating in the cup are moored here and it is about a 1 1/2 mile sail/motor to the start line. For those without motors, there are many boats motoring from here so tows are easily obtainable.
